Bonin Architects & Associates is designing a new barn style timber frame home in Lyme, Connecticut for Ann Marie and Anthony.
Ann Marie and Anthony’s property abuts Cedar Lake and is surrounded by protected wetlands, creating a peaceful and remote sylvan setting. We met with Ann Marie and Anthony, a civil engineer and Town Officials recently to review placement of the home and septic systems on the site with care and attention to reducing any negative impact on the land and wetlands while still allowing for passive solar design.
The timber frame home will incorporate SIPs (structural insulated panels), an open great room, kitchen and dining area, a master suite, two guest bedrooms, a guest suite, and a recreation room in the walk out basement area.
The design of Ann Marie and Anthony’s timber frame home is completed. The style of this barn house blends in well with the rest of the beautiful homes in the area, many of which have been in existence for centuries.
Most of the interior spaces of their energy efficient home will focus on views to the south and west, into the woods and overlooking the property. The first floor contains a foyer with ample closet space, a timber frame great room which features soaring cathedral ceilings, along with a Tulikivi stove which will include a bake oven, a kitchen with views overlooking the property and open to the dining area, a laundry room, and a large master bedroom suite.
On the second floor, there are two guest bedrooms, another full bathroom, and a loft overlooking the great room which will become a place for built-in bookcases and quiet place to read and relax.
The home will be designed to earn the ENERGY STAR®, which will include ENERGY STAR approved insulation (SIP panels), duct system, mechanical ventilation system, windows, heating and cooling units, lighting, and appliances.
