Our clients in New York are planning to build a new home just outside of Ithaca. Their goals for the home include energy efficiency, the efficient use of space, and incorporating solar energy and grey water systems.
The craftsman / prairie style of the home will fit in nicely with the suburban neighborhood and surrounding architectural style. The floor plan features an open kitchen, dining, and great room, which will make entertaining easy. A three-season porch off the great room and a connected screened porch provide additional areas for entertaining and enjoying the landscaping and gardens.
The mudroom and laundry are conveniently located next to the garage, with easy access to the pantry for unloading groceries. A large craft room is the perfect spot for working on large and small art projects, as well as storing seasonal decorations and household items.
Downstairs, two additional bedrooms provide additional guest quarters. A common area and bonus room can be used as a game / family room. Extra storage was designed in the common area and mechanical rooms. The common area opens to an outdoor patio underneath the screened porch.
Plans for energy efficient materials include a structural insulated panel system, solar hot water system, a metal roof, and high performance, energy efficient windows.
