After years of searching for land, our newest clients Brian and Gail purchased 73 acres on a hillside in Jaffrey, New Hampshire last December. The property faces east and runs from hilltop to the bottom with a fantastic 180-degree view from Mt. Monadnock due north, to Temple, Kidder, and Barrett Mountains to the east, to Mt. Watatic and even Wachusett to the south - the perfect location for an energy efficient home!
Architect Jeremy Bonin has recently completed the preliminary design. The one story house plans are both simple and efficient, while planning for future accessibility issues.

The courtyard opens the house to many views while bringing nature, light and landscaping into many spaces and gives the master suite and the main living area light and ventilation on three sides -- something very important and unique to this design.
The main public spaces of the home, as well as the master bedroom, address the amazing eastern view of the property. Meanwhile, the master bedroom also captures the northern Monadnock view and the living area encompasses the 180+ degree view that extends to the south.
Patios extend the living spaces from the master and from the main living area in a southern and eastern direction, providing a great space for morning coffee and late brunch.
The home design calls for SIP panels, which will create an energy efficient thermal envelope and save the homeowners up to 50% in heating costs over a home with conventional material. Renewable energy plans include a solar hot water system, geothermal heating system, and a possible wind turbine in the future. This green home design proves energy efficiency can be beautiful!

| The floor plan includes an air-lock gable foyer entrance with coat closets and benches. The home will be a timber frame hybrid, combining a timber frame roof system with a structural insulated panel (SIP panels) wall and roof system. The main living areas - the kitchen, dining, and living room - are open and will showcase an unobstructed view of the timbers and the incredible mountain scenery.
The garage connects to the house through a modern, open mudroom, with ample storage and closet space and the laundry area. A shared entrance to a second full bath provides easy access from both the living area and home office, which easily converts to a guest bedroom by lowering a Murphy bed.
Brian and Gail did a lot of reflecting on their lifestyle, as shown by their home design. Practical features include ample storage space and room for their motorcycles, a large mechanical room, and multiple use for the office / guest bedroom, while the Master Bedroom suite layout with its screened sleeping porch and Brian's den address the couple's privacy needs.

Our Intern Architect Chris drew three kitchen design layouts for Brian and Gail and also gave them 3D renderings to match the layouts. Adding people to the
layouts will help them visualize the scale of the room. The first renderings are of the floor plan above.
|
An alternate design is a galley layout with a long straight counter and the dining room table centered on the east wall between the patio doors.
|
Another design layout features a kitchen island with counter seating
on the east side to access the patio and the dining table to the south,
against the masonry heater.
