"My wife and I had pursued several options as we developed a plan for a river front home. In each case we were frustrated with the input we were receiving from area drafting services. We began looking at some of the timber frame models because of their openness and creativity. It seemed that the timber frame architects had a special eye for the type of features we were looking for in a home.
While we are not building a timber home, we did see one of the timber homes online that Bonin Architects had designed. We did not want to spend the money for full design services and expected when we contacted the Bonin's that they would not want to get involved in less than a full design process. We were pleasantly surprised when they informed us that they were happy to assist in designing an exterior as well as a floor plan that accommodated our interests.
We were frustrated because we had some general design ideas but we couldn't put it all together and needed the creativity of an architect. Bonin Architects did a wonderful job in working with the best of our ideas and where input was required they were happy to do so. They assisted us with some difficult terrain and elevation issues and we are now able to go forward with the construction of the home confident that the home is filled with our ideas and Bonin Architects’ expertise. "I still remember the day Gene and I drove up to New Hampshire and met with Kim and Jeremy to talk about our 'wish list' of features in the timber frame home we wanted to build. I made it clear that my most fervent wish, at the end of the project, was to have at least one glorious, hammerbeam to gaze upon every day for the rest of my days. We continued on with our list, and you both listened to every word. And from that beginning, we have continued to enjoy working with you folks. We were not "easy" clients; we had dreadful delays at the outset with our site preparation, but you remained patient and good natured. You always answered e-mails within hours, and you usually beat your own deadlines for one step or another. You were absolutely up front about costs, so we always knew what to expect. I remember that at the last minute I discovered I needed some extra form prepared for our New York State building inspector. 'We can do that.' you told me calmly, and the next day we had it. We are nearing the end of our project; I think we'll be ready to move in within two months. Except for the part where we have to write checks, we've enjoyed the whole process.
