Bonin Architects is working with Mark and Cindy for the design and project management of their new home addition, which will consist of a timber frame great room, workshop and garage for their existing home located halfway between the beautiful lakes region of New Hampshire and the Seacoast.
The contemporary style home was built in the 1980’s and contains abundant charm on the interior. An original hybrid design of a post and beam, the new timber frame addition will provide additional living space with seasonal views of the nearby lake. With the added living space and new great room, the kitchen and dining area will be expanded and become a main core of the home for this couple who enjoy cooking together. An attached garage and woodworking shop, and two bathroom remodels will complete the renovations of Mark and Cindy’s home with an expected completion date by summer 2009.
Progress of the home design is posted below. Click on floor plans for larger images.

Changes from the preliminary home design: The
original one-story bump-out on the first floor west elevation will be
replaced with a structural insulated panel two-story addition in order
to remodel the first floor bath and double the size of the second floor
bathroom located above (shown in elevation, left). In order to
accommodate a steam shower and soaking tub, we are proposing a
cantilevered second floor bathroom (elevation will be updated when
approved). Other options were to specify smaller units, have a single
tub/shower unit, or enlarge the bump-out on both floors.
Several items will
be saved in the demolition, including the windows from the upper
levels, the refrigerator, the soaking tub and one of the toilets, which
will be put to use at our clients’ camp up north. Click on a floor plan for a larger image.
