On Thursday, April 20th, our firm received three awards during the NH Home Design Awards Ceremony in Manchester, NH!

They were in the following categories:

Nearly all of our firm was able to attend together. We are grateful to NH Home Magazine, as well as the board of independent judges for the recognition.

Starting a business during the 2008 recession was certainly a leap of faith. With four young children at the time, equal parts of balancing family life, hard work, determination, and sleepless nights, Kim and Jeremy Bonin turned their dream of owning a small architectural firm into more than they ever envisioned. Fifteen years later, Bonin Architects is now one of the largest full-service architectural and landscape design firms in New Hampshire, with offices in both New London and Meredith.

If you know Kim and Jeremy, this journey has never been about just them. They are quiet and reserved and focus their time and energy on caring for their family, business, and employees. They take great pride in knowing that Bonin Architects’ reputation in the area is stellar.

They are thankful for the growth and success of Bonin Architects over the past fifteen years that comes from working daily with professional, talented, and dedicated employees (their extended family), along with dozens of contractors, sub-contractors and consultants, (many of who are considered friends). WELCOME TO OUR FIRM, SALLY BRENNER

Please welcome Sally Brenner to our growing firm!

Sally received her Bachelors of Architecture degree from Roger Williams University. She remained in Rhode Island for a few years after graduation working at a mid-size firm on schools, police and fire stations. In search of a new adventure, she jumped on an opportunity to move to New York City. She found a job at a small architecture firm and found her niche in high-end residential design. She worked in two firms during this time; The first firm saw her rise to Project Manager and she became the first employee of the second firm. This gave her an interesting opportunity to build the fundamentals of an office with the two partners of the firm, which quickly grew from three to a collective of 10 designers during her time there. She worked on everything from apartment reconfigurations and historic preservation renovations to redesigned brownstones and new vacation homes. She worked in New York City for twelve years, and after an all-too-brief year in New Orleans, she was lured back home to New Hampshire to be close to family. She will continue to pursue her licensure in New Hampshire.

Sally is an avid reader, traveler and is always up for a new adventure. She enjoys a multitude of crafts and engaging with the community. Perhaps she’ll get back into skiing!

MICHAEL PRITCHARD - DRONE PILOT

Congratulations to our firm's BIM Manager & Architectural Designer, Michael Pritchard, for recently becoming an FAA Certified drone pilot!

Mike juggles several responsibilities in our office, and he was proactive in the challenge of becoming licensed. Mike will be documenting many of our projects from the ground and in the air with drone footage.

What does it take to become a licensed commercial drone pilot and why did we decide to invest in the equipment? Here's why:

Why add a drone, and remote pilot to an architect’s workflow?

Drones offer an alternate perspective on architectural projects. Whether it be capturing final photography, filming cinematic videography, or doing preliminary site investigations and construction progress shots; to fly a drone commercially, there are a few steps you must complete prior to taking off.

• First, you must be at least 16 years old, read, speak, write and understand English, and be in a physical and mental condition to operate an aircraft.

• Acquire an FAA Tracking Number, FTN.

• Pass the FAA certified aeronautical knowledge exam based on the rules of 14 CFR Part 107 Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems, which includes guidelines for drone operations, airspace classifications, emergency procedures, communication and weather patterns.

• Once you pass the exam, submit the airmen rating application and receive a TSA background check.

• Once approved, you will receive a temporary certification while the FAA processes the remote pilot’s permanent certification and ships via the mail.

• When received, the Remote Pilot in Command, RPIC, is free to conduct commercial drone operations.

EXCELLENCE IN ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN: MEREDITH GETAWAY

Our firm was honored to receive the award for Excellence in Architectural Design: Meredith Getaway, during the 2021 New Hampshire Home Magazine Design Awards Ceremony.

Located on Lake Winnipesaukee, this new home design preserves the aesthetic of the area through contemporary use of classic cottage architectural features. Brackets, balconies, and a mixture of exterior materials for example, keep the scale of the house casual and comfortable given the close proximity to the shore front living spaces. The interior design and orientation of each space places the focus on the lakefront views from sunrise to sunset!
